Transit time of the small intestine and absorption of dietary cholesterol were studied in 8
female and 25 male patients 16 to 55 years old in basal conditions and after specific drugs
were given parenterally. Acceleration of transit of the small intestine, by metoclopramide,
was associated with a decrease in absorption of cholesterol; slowing of transit, by atropine,
had almost no effect on absorption of cholesterol.
